Timney Triggers: Their Products and Best Practices

We have discussed Timney Triggers in a previous blog post — in fact, we have discussed them twice. However, we mostly focused on describing the manufacturer itself and gave some details on their signature drop-in trigger design.

Now, we wish to go over a few subjects that veer a little more on the practical side. That way, anyone interested in Timney Trigger products will know how to make the best choices. Here is some information on how you can actually incorporate these triggers to your firearms, as well as some of the different rifle features.

Timney Triggers, Reloaded
Allen Timney believed that the designs of the triggers used for military rifles could be markedly improved in several ways. For one, the preset ones were tougher to pull than sport shooters may like. For another, it was tough to even install, let alone use. Timney is known for producing scores of different triggers. The differences may seem subtle, but they can make a world of difference based on the customer’s personal preferences.

The signature element of Timney Triggers products is the single-stage drop-in trigger. This state-of-the-art design, found in items like the Calvin Elite and the HIT Trigger, is extremely simple to install into a rifle. It simply slides in and uses the trigger and hammer pins of the rifle to stay in place. Problems like slack and pin rotation are all but gone thanks to excellent engineering. This type of trigger is compatible with a variety of rifles and handguns, making them even more convenient for the average competitive shooter.

Timney AR-15 Trigger

Posted by Scott Martin on 10/27/2015 to Timney Triggers Information

As a Marine grunt, you don't always get the best gear, but rather hand-me-downs that have been beat to death by the Army already. So needless to say, my experience with M-16/AR-15 triggers has been somewhat frustrating. There's nothing that can ruin your experience with a rifle more than a long, sloppy trigger, but that all changed for me this past weekend. After work on Friday, with the help of Mark Rosset, I finally upgraded my standard mil-spec trigger with Timney's skeletonized, 3 pound single stage trigger. With it being a true, one-piece drop in trigger, the installation was smoother than I imagined, and the trigger was even smoother. For me, the days of slowly squeezing a mil-spec trigger with no real idea when firing will take place are long gone. I test ran it over the weekend in a local 2 gun match, engaging targets as close as 10 feet and out to a hair over 200 yards. I couldn't be happier, and neither could the guys that had a chance to run my gun. The break was very crisp and short, and I shot better consistently than I had in the past. I have already, and will continue to recommend the trigger to anyone looking to upgrade to a better one.
